Purge & Backup

It appears to me that the size of my Timeslips backup file remains the same after purging several years of slips, clients and other items.  I expected the backup file size to be reduced after purging items from the database.  Is my expectation incorrect or is there another step I must follow in order to reduce the backup file size?

Purging reduces the data in the database making it faster but it doesn't necessarily reduce the size of the tables. There are utilities that some consultants have that can be used to condense the tables which will reduce the database size but it is not necessary.
