Help! Cant delete an old, obsolete bank account.

SOLVED

Hi all

We have 2 old bank accounts listed on Sage, they both have a false balance left over in them.

Due to incorrect procedures in the past these still have funds showing in them but they're empty now and closed.

When I try to adjust the bank opening balance to zero these out I get the message "This transaction cannot be edited as it falls within the closed period"

Does anyone know how we can get around this?

    Good Day Lance ,

The reason for the error is that the vat period is closed for that date , you can re open the vat period and then adjust the opening balance.

A locked period is a vat period that has been closed meaning the transactions pertaining to this period are locked off for any amendments. You will need to reopen the vat period. This can be done on the vat returns and reports screen.

Reports > Vat > Vat Returns and Reports

Next to the period that has been lock there is an option to reopen the period

    Click on reopen then save.

Once the period has been reopened you can amend the transaction that has been processed and locked.

NB: Any transactions that have been back dated prior to and including to the date of the period you are reopening and that have not been included in any other VAT return will be included in the period VAT return once you close this VAT period.

    Regards

Hi Katherine, thank you for your help and guidance. I checked the VAT periods and what I didnt see before is that the last VAT period on the list is 2015-2018 all included. Once I opened this period I was able to make the opening balance adjustments to finally close off those old accounts.

Thank you again for your help, this is now resolved.
