Release 5.6a: SDL 1% and Period Calculation

Release 5.6a has been implemented to include the following modification:

When loading this release, if the SDL % is zero, it will be changed to 1.00%. If the ‘Period SDL Calculation’ is selected (ticked), it will be unselected (ticked removed).

We are aware of the following scenarios that are affecting some users:

Scenario 1:

If your company is exempt from Skills development levy you, after loading Release 5.6a skills development levy is calculating in the system. With this scenario you will be required to remove the 1% on the Basic Company information screen.

How do I remove the 1% SDL Percentage on the Basic Company Information Screen, if I am exempt from the skills development levy?

  • From the Main Menu
  • Select Company
  • Select Basic Company Information Screen
  • Remove the 1% on the SDL Percentage
  • Click on Close
  • Select Yes for the system to complete a general recalculation
  • Print the EMP201 report to verify there are zero SDL calculations

Note: If Release 5.6a was installed in your February 2021 copy instance, you will need to complete the same process to remove the skills development levy from calculating.

Scenario 2:

Release 5.6a was installed in the February 2021 tax instance and the company does contribute towards skills development levy, however the skills contribution is much higher in February.

Access the Basic Company Information screen and tick the Period SDL calculation field. This is to ensure that the skills payment holiday (4 month period) remains on zero.

  • From the Main Menu
  • Select Company
  • Select Basic Company Information screen
  • Tick the Period SDL Calculation field
  • Select Yes to complete a General Recalculation
  • Print the EMP201 report to verify the SDL contribution has the correct values
