Sage Self Service - Approval process in absence of manager

SUGGESTED

Our leave approval process is very simple: Direct line manager approves leave, and the Payroll Admin then does a final approval to get the leave into the system on a schedule.

Occasionally a line manager will be on leave, and their reports submit leave requests which then cannot be approved until the line manager returns from leave. How do others deal with this?

  1. The obvious solution is to have the reporting chain change from the person on leave to someone else, but that requires a lot of admin for our HR team.
  2. Another option is to have an alternate approver, but how is that set up in SSS, which seems to have only linear approval chains? We also don't want to spam the alternate approver (typically the manager's manager) unnecessarily, so would like that alternate path to happen something like "after X days of no response, send to Y for approval."

Looking forward to any advice on how to manage this.

    Hi Dean,

The option would be to ensure you use Workflows, and create Aprover Groups, where you will be able to link more than one approver. The approval message will go to all aprrovers, however only  one approver in the same approver group needs to approve the transaction, to escalate to the next approval level.

Unfortunately, Sage Self Service does not offer escalation of approval, if not actioned within a specific timeframe.
