The Malawi Revenue Authority has released the new tax tables for the 2021/2022 tax year.

The effective date is 13 August 2021.
Tax files have been made available for the latest Malawi tax changes which should be implemented during your August 2021 pay run.
To ensure that your system is updated with the latest changes, please follow the instructions below to install the software.
Basic steps to download and install the new tax files (Please download the installation instructions from the Downloads page for more information and detailed instructions):
- Ensure your payroll system is on Release 5.6b
- Your payroll must be in a new pay period
- Click here to access the Downloads page or here to download the files from the Sage Portal on the Product updates page
- On the Downloads page, click on the Africa tab
- Download the tax file " Malawi Tax changes for Premier/Sage200c: R56b (August 2021 – File Version 202106)”
- The file "MalawiTax_20210816.zip" will be downloaded to the folder specific to your browser (usually Downloads)
Once the file has been downloaded to your computer:
- Locate the downloaded file MalawiTax_20210816.zip,
- Right-click on the file and select to open with Windows Explorer
- Click on Extract and select Extract all
- Select your payroll application system folder as destination to extract files, and click Extract
- When prompted to overwrite the files, say Yes

FAQ's
Can I install the tax files in September, will the system backdate the Tax from August?
Malawi is a monthly taxable country, therefore the tax will not backdate. The tax files must be installed in August.
Are the new tax tables applicable from the 13th of August?
The new tax tables are applicable for the full month of August.
I have installed the tax tables, why has the tax not changed?
Please ensure that you do a General Recalculation in each company after extracting the files.
