The new Tax File for Malawi which is effective from April 2023, is now available on the Sage Portal and Software Downloads page.

When you install the tax file, the system will force a recalculation of the tax table in the 2023/2024 tax year.
Before installing the new tax file, take note of the following:
- Your payroll software must be on Release 6.0a
- Your payroll company should be in a new pay period before installing the new tax tables
- Always make a Full System Backup before installing new tax files to your system folder
- Malawi forms part of the Africa Tax Module. This tax file includes the Malawi changes and other tax files included in Tax File version 202301
How to download the tax file from the Software Downloads page:
Click here to access the Software Downloads page and follow the instructions below:
- Select the Africa tab
- Click here to download the installation instructions
- Click on the Download button next to Malawi Tax changes for Premier: R60a (April 2023 - Tax File Version 202302)
- Follow the installation instructions to complete the installation
- Ensure to do a General Recalculation when accessing your company, prior to finalising your payroll
When you access the Africa Tax Country companies, which includes Malawi, you will receive the following message "The Version Number of Tax Rules/Tables have changed"
- When you select Yes, the system will apply the rules/tables in the current version
- When you select No, the system will close.
