e@syFile error: "The ETI Calculated reported on the EMP501 does not balance with the IRP5/IT3(a) certificates. Please rectify the ETI calculated on the EMP501 or the applicable IRP5/IT3(a) certificates.

We have received quite a number of enquiries regarding the following error message:

"The ETI Calculated reported on the EMP501 does not balance with the IRP5/IT3(a) certificates. Please rectify the ETI calculated on the EMP501 or the applicable IRP5/IT3(a) certificates."

The error message comes up when you try to file or save the EMP501 on e@syFile,, and claimed ETI during the period of reconciliation.

  • Hi. I'm getting this error despite IRP5 certificates and emp501 amounts been exactly the same (to the cent) ???

Any idea on resolving ? SARS has escalated my query so waiting for them to call back ...

    Hi W-J,

What we have seen as that the rounding is the only issue, sine the certificate values are the actual ETI (including cents) where the EMP501 declaration uses rounded values - thus the total for both certificate values vs EP501 declared values must be the same.

The best is to have a look at the report from your payroll, as this will provide you with the monthly breakdown on the totals page.

Refer to this article on Sage City for guidance. We hope you will be able to resolve this soon.

Thanks. Yes the emp501 does round the nonthly values but below that is a block showing value of 4118 in certificates and these match.

How do I fix this so I can complete TYE?

If the values on your IRP5/IT3a report balances to the values on the e@syFile EMP501 ETI values (which is rounded), then the expectation is that their software should allow it.

From past experience, the rounding which causes the values to be out with R1 was the issue, and had to be adjusted on the EMP501 (or some users actually went and changed it on a random certificate!)

Maybe if you post printscreens of the e@syFile ETI declaration section of the EMP501 page here (please remove any company details and reference numbers) and the total on the IRP5/IT3a Report Totals (showing the value of 4118 and the monthly values), we might be able to see what the cause might be.

So the total on your declaration is R 242 714, and the value on your certificates R 242 713.51.

Seems as if the difference in cents (0.49c to be exact) is the cause - the declaration is only comparing the rands between certiicates and declaration..

There is no official solution provided on the SARS site to resolve the issue, but we have launched a new video to address this issue as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Zhjue27kDQ

How do you change a tax certificate manually ? I pressume i will have to 'redo' a live TYE and import to easyfile again?
