How do I add Parental, Commissioning Parental and Adoption Leave on my payroll?

Government Gazette 42925, was published on 23 December 2019.  Sections 1 to 7 of the Labour Laws Amendment Act, 2018 were made effective as from 1 January 2020.

How does this affect my payroll?

The BCEA was amended to include 3 new leave types to be applied by employers – parental, commissioning parental and adoption leave and should therefore be implemented from 1 January 2020 on your payroll.

The remaining sections dealing with corrections and UIF benefits for adoption and commissioning parental leave is not effective yet, but is expected to be made effective soon.

What should be done on payroll in January 2020?

  • Create 3 new leave types for Parental, Commissioning Parental and Adoption Leave (Leave Module users only)
  • Define 3 new Leave Lines to capture transactions and link to the Leave Types
  • Entitlement can be defined but is not necessary. There are no leave cycles connected to these leave types, as it is connected to a life event. It is thus not necessary to define any entitlement.

We recommend that individual leave lines and types are created in order for the transactions to be recorded correctly.

Take note:

Sage VIP Classic users and users without the Leave Module have limited leave lines available in the payroll application. Should you require additional leave lines, please contact the Sage Sales team to assist you with upgrading your software. Click here to submit your request via web form.
