Changing the Company Name As It Appears on the Sage Window Title Bar

SOLVED

Single user installation of Sage 50 Pro Canadian Edition.

This is a really minor issue.

I've created a new company from scratch using the wizard and made some changes (chart of accounts, projects, customers, starting balances, taxes, etc.).  The company name appears as expected on the title bar of the Sage window.

I have duplicated the company .saj data directory and file for testing purposes (entering invoices, payments, and assigning them to project, etc.).  The same company name appears on the title bar, also as expected.  However, I would like to change the name that appears on the title bar so that I can reassure myself that I'm not working on the original files.

I've tried renaming the directory and files, but Sage complains that a file is missing when I attempt to open the test company (If I revert the names, everything is good again).  I have tried changing the company name under Settings but this doesn't seem to have any effect on the title bar contents.

Any suggestions?

    The easiest way to rename a company file is to do a File,Save As and give it a new name and location. This will allow you to change the name of the *.sai file.

    If you wish to do it at the Windows Explorer level, get out of the program, go to the location of the files (see File, Properties while in the program) and rename both the *.sai file and *.saj folder to the same prefix part.

    eg. Masters.sai needs to be renamed.

    Rename
    Masters.sai ->TestFile.sai
    Masters.saj ->TestFile.saj

    Basic renaming keeps the file in the original location and the new name takes over the old name and therefore you no longer have the old file. However you said you duplicated the *.sai file and *.saj folder so just rename the duplicates. If you used click and drag copying, then I believe the *.saj becomes *.saj copy2 or something like that so it no longer matches the original *.saj naming structure and will not function with the appropriate *.sai even if the "*" part is the same on both.

    After changing the company name under Setup > Settings, I noticed that in every dialog except the main window, the revised company name appears in the lower right corner. Now that I know where to look, this solves my concern.

    Richard, thanks for a quick answer.

    I have tried copying and renaming the file and directory in Windows Explorer but it didn't seem to work as expected. Sage refused to open the test company and advised that a file was missing.

    I had not thought of creating the copy from within Sage, so I'll give that a try next. However, I have noticed that changing the company name in Settings does result in the new name appearing in the lower right-hand corner of most dialog boxes, but not the main window. This will be enough for me.

    Edit: The save and copy function within Sage works perfectly.
