Calendar vs Fiscal Year Change

Question

Company fiscal year ends January 31st. When I try to change my transaction date from Dec.31 2017 to January 5th 2018, Sage wants to start a new year. Does this does mean it also wants to start a new accounting year and set my income statement values to ZERO? 
 I double checked in company info settings, and the fical year February 1 to January 31st is listed correctly. 
 Any help would be appreciated.

When you change the date to January 5th, 2018 the system (Sage) will think you are finished with payroll for 2017. It then can handle your payroll for the calendar year 2018. If you have changes to or additions to your payroll you will have to enter payroll manually for 2017. It does not change your fiscal year unless you hit that magic button to change to a new fiscal year.
