There are some different options that Sage doesn't mention. They basically want all of their clients to go on a subscription basis. In your case you do not have to upgrade every year. To do payroll Sage charges additional monies depending upon the number of employees you have. I would suggest if you are inclined to to purchase or change your Sage plan to a licensed desktop version. As soon as you go to the cloud version version you are on a subscription and have to pay yearly to use the software. With a licensed desktop version you can use the program as long as you want. You will not be able to use the payroll module unless you pay for it. There are no limitations other than operating systems changes which can affect the use of a licensed version of Sage. At that point just buy a newer licensed desktop version which is compatible with the current operating systems.

Actually you can obtain a downloadable version from Sage. If you decide on one in a box from a retail store ensure it is not a cloud version and payroll is not included. If you need more info or would like help let me know!

The last time I checked with my Sage rep it was around $350.00 plus taxes for a Pro version and Premium was around $575.00 plus taxes.

Sorry one more question. I have another client that uses payroll and has 8 employeess. Is being charged for a Sage 50 cloud with payroll and service plan for 1400 dollars per year. All they want is Sage 50 Premium with payroll service up to 10 employees. It seems the cloud is expensive or maybe it is the service plan.  Anyway, they used to pay 900 per year and now it is up to 1400. Seems like robbery.

It does seem high priced. Are they using any other add-on features? Payroll tends to be about $300 to $400 more on top of the purchase price for the first payroll tier level.

No other add-on features but the girl who worked there last year must have upgraded unknowingly to the Sage 50 Cloud. All we need at that non profit business is sage 50 Premium with payroll and payroll updates twice a year per usual.

The people i talk to on the phone do not seem to be very educated or helpful when i give them my account number from one of the business i do books for and one rep actually disconnected me because i think he  could not answer my inquiries and questions.

One thing to note, is that certain features (such as access to Remote Data Access, creating credit or debit notes) are only available to subscribers of Sage 50cloud. In order to access these additional features of the software: the user needs to be online, or require a service plan. Your plan likely also includes support.

This is perfect timing as am hoping to get my renewal order changed so i no longer have sage 50 cloud(don't know how that happened) all i want is Sage 50 Premium with payroll and and payroll tax updates. They were wanting $1400 dollars for one of the companies i work for (10 employees) and we pay $1000 for another company I work for who has 24 employees.
