Hi Cam;

Sage 50c would be able to work with the .cab file. It is both a desktop and cloud based software. Sage Accounting or Sage Business Cloud Accounting will not be able to work with a .cab file.

That makes perfect sense, thank you Agate! Is there a trial version of Sage 50c that I can open the file with?

One issue though is determining which version of Sage 50 the backup was created with. There are 3 versions: Pro, Premium and Quantum.

I believe it is the Pro version. 

I've signed up for the trial but am stuck at the "Let’s set up your business" and cannot proceed with only the .cab file.

You do not need to setup your business. Install the product and view the sample company. Once in there choose the file menu, then restore from backup. You will need to choose a location on your hard drive and a name for the company you are trying to restore.

Oh! That would be fantastic but I don't seem to have an option to install the product... 

I found the right spot to download the program. Thank you for your help, Agate.

I ended needing the Accountant version to open the file.
