Lost Functionality

SOLVED

Latest upgrade and lost the ability to Financial/Transactions By Account produces nothing.

Similarly Trial Balance, click account and get nothing.

Both of these should list transactons.

Any suggestions or thoughts as to cause?

The forum emails you directly, there is no need for users to do so.  That way users can see the answers to the questions and learn from them.

I am a little confused by your description of things, so I wonder if you could expand a little more on exactly what is happening.

For example, only the Transactions by Account report should show transactions, the Trial Balance does not.

    Questions

    1) For the Reports, Financials, Transactions By Account report, do you get a dialog that allows you to select one or more general ledger accounts as well as fiscal year and start and end dates?

    2) If so, when you click OK to generate the report, is this when you get nothing?

    3) For the Trial Balance report do you get the dialog for the fiscal year and end date?  Is it after you hit OK that you get nothing?

    4) In either case, do you get an icon on the Windows Task bar after you hit ok?

    5) Do you use the company file on different computers with the same username?

    1. Yes, Modify Report lets me select date range, etc., etc. The issue is after all of this.

    2. Yes

    3. On the trial balance the issue happens when I click on an amount, eg. Advertising, that should list all transactions to that account.

    4. Yes - Company Name/Report Centre/Transaction By Account - this last one produces a blank screen

    5. No

Ok, you probably have a display resolution confusion.  Go back to the Home Screen and click on the Close Other Windows icon on the toolbar.  This will start you from fresh.

Then click on Reports, Financials, Transactions by Account, Select a couple of accounts, make sure the date range should include transactions in those account and click Ok and take your hand off the mouse.

Immediately use the keyboard only and hit Alt-Spacebar (hold Alt and hit Space), then let go of both keys.

You should see a menu show on screen.  Hit M on the keyboard (for Move).

Then if the menu was at the top right of the monitor, use the down and left arrow keys and repeated hit them to move the window back on screen.

Then if the menu was at the bottom left of the monitor, use the up and right arrow keys and repeated hit them to move the window back on screen.

When the window is back on screen, hit Enter.  You can now maximise and restore and it should stay on screen.

    Alternate:

When the menu comes up, you can maximise right away but if you just hit the Restore button it will disappear again.  To shrink the window you need to grab the title bar and drag it down a little until the window resizes then let go while it is on screen and it will stay on screen.

OK, did this. Got as far as hit M for Move and the menu (bottom left) just disappeared

Then if the menu was at the bottom left of the monitor, use the up and right arrow keys and repeated hit them to move the window back on screen.

This should have said ...hit them repeatedly to move...

eg. hit Up arrow 5 times, Right arrow 5 times.  If the window is not on screen yet, repeat the Up arrow 5 times, Right arrow 5 times, etc.

THANK YOU!!!!!! Grin What did I do to cause this to happen in the first place?

In your case, I don't know for sure.  The reason I asked Question #5 is because the main cause of this is using the company file on different computers.  Unless you have switched monitors recently, I don't know the cause.  It could be some bad math within the program.

The program keeps track of window positions I think, based on pixel location of the top left corner, as well as the size of the window when not maximised.  Different monitors have different numbers of pixels based on screen resolution.  The same monitor with different used resolutions can likely cause this as well.  I've noticed a large number of clients I help through the internet never maximise their windows and therefore are at the wim of screen resolutions when they open the file at home vs. work with the same username and sometimes windows disappear.  This does happen in other programs but it does seem to be prominently Sage 50 that has the problem.  I'd like the programmers to validate the position before display (eg. if a pixel is negative set it to zero, if a pixel is larger than the largest pixel for the current monitory, set it to that).
