migrating from Sage 50 2014

SUGGESTED

Greetings.   I am a complete novice with Sage  so bear with me.   I am asking a question on behalf of my father-in-law who uses a copy of SAGE50 (Canadian Edition) acquired in 2014 and running on a Windows 8 PC.

My father-in-law is 102 and an ex partner of KPMG.   He still uses SAGE 50 to post to his personal accounts.....

I need to migrate him to a new PC running Windows 10.     Can anyone point me to instructions on how to convert his data to the current SAGE 50 Canadian Edition?  If you could also recommend which current version of Sage 50 he should acquire that would help immensely.   His needs are basic.  He has a company set up to manage the basic accounting for his personal needs ..

He bought the copy of SAGE50 in 2014 but I think the business model for SAGE has changed to a subscription .   Do I have that right?

Sorry if this all sounds confused .... it is because I am !

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Before you shut down the old computer, please check the c:\Sage folder to see if the installation program is there.

If the original 2014.0 was updated with a subsequent 2014 release, check the path

    C:\Users\Public\Documents\Sage Software\Simply Accounting\Download

and look for the highest level file names like SA_20142CPUP1.exe where the number after 2014 is the release 2014.1, 2014.2, 2014.3, 2014.4.  This example file is 2014.2.
