You can't get the journal entry to appear after posting.  You can get it to appear from almost all data entry screens before posting using the Report menu.

Setup, User Preferences, Transaction Confirmation will get you the journal entry number.

You can get the journal number to show as soon as the entry is posted. Go to Setup > User Preferences > Transaction Confirmation, check the box for 'Tell me when a transaction is processed or recorded successfully.'
