Could not open G/L report -- Error message

SUGGESTED

I opened up an general ledger acct under expenses acct as an "heading" 5001. other expenses accts were also opened under this heading acct as "sub-acct group". Now I could not open G/L report as it give me an error message" your accounts are not in logical order. The reason is: there is a missing group total before acct "5001: expenses" ". If I change the 5001 expense acct class from heading to sub group or whatever available then I can able to get report. But I want this 5001 acct to be the heading for the following sub group acct. Some one please help me get rid of this error message or advise me what could be done!

Thanks

Anu

Before you created the 5001 Heading you had a 5905 Total line for all those accounts above it. Now you have inserted a Heading 5001 and therefore you need to create a new Total line BEFORE the group heading 5001. It could be 4999 Total line but it will be a T type.

If you use a Heading then you have to have a Total and this creates an entirely separate section.

If you don't use a Heading but want a subtotal line then just get rid of the Heading 5001, change the acct nbrs you want included to A type and enter a SubTotal line which is an S type.

I think what you were trying to do was to create a 'Sub Heading' but unfortunately that is not allowable in Sage - only Sub totals.
