Inventory Pricing

Hello all,

I have been having an issue for a while now with my inventory pricing.  It works great for looking up inventory #, using it on an invoice, etc. but when I go to adjust said #, it says there is no price.  It seems like all the newer item #'s are doing this but I entering the #'s, the same way that the former bookkeeper did.  Looking to get some help before the middle of February before the company does its yearly inventory entries.

Thank you in advance,

Vanessa

  • First thing... Be careful between PRICE and COST.

I beleive you are talking about COST.

When doing adjustments the system looks at Landed cost.

If you have no transactions against the Item number it won't be there.

We have had to use a Manual Purchase transaction which allows you to assign a cost to the part.

This is in Sage 500, I am not sure what you are using.

I am using Sage 50 Premium version.  I have a price in the cost and regular sections of the pricing under inventory item.  How do I go about doing a manual purchase transaction?

    Hi Vanessa,

Since your post relates directly to Sage 50 CA, I am going to move your question to that Support Group so that other users of this software will see it and can offer their thoughts and insight.

    Thanks,

    Derek

    Hi Vanessa,

Could you please post the exact software version and Edition (from Help | About), and wording of the error message you are receiving?

When entering an adjustment without either a dollar amount or quantity, you'll see an error message:

    "Entry must have an amount".

It's not possible to adjust 'Service Items' since their value and quantity on hand is not tracked.

The version I am using is Sage 50 Premium Accounting (Version 2015.1).  I don't have a error message pop up.  When I am in the inventory section and I go to "Adjust Inventory" and I go to change inventory items, there is no price in the journal entry but when I go back to said item, there is a price under the pricing tab.

I'm not sure what you mean by that.  There are no prices in any journal entry of any kind.

The information in the pricing tab is completely separate from any cost on hand, unless you're using QuickBooks.   The prices in the 'pricing' tab for an inventory number have been manually put there, by someone.

If you're asking why you have changed the cost, but the price didn't automatically update, that would be because you're not using QuickBooks.   Sage 50 does not have that feature, SELLING price changes are manually done in the Pricing tab for each item, or done in a batch using the 'Update Price Lists' tool under Setup | Settings | Inventory & Services | Price List.  It's not automatic, you have to run it manually.

If you're asking why you can't drill down from the Journal Entry into the Inventory Transaction Detail, that's because you have to pay more money for better software, to get that capability.

If you're asking how you can have a selling price with no cost amount recorded anywhere, again, Sage 50 is not QuickBooks, the cost is automatically used.  Whether you've recorded a cost of nothing or something, that cost is used automatically to generate the Journal entries when you sell items.

If you're asking how to print out a report of all the individual inventory items' adjustment entries, some reports such as Inventory Adjustment Detail, available in the Quantum Edition may not be available in the Premium Edition, so you might not be able to.
