You can import GL entries by going to File > Import /Export > Import Transactions... the wizard guides you through the rest but there's more details on KB 41370

Thanks Erzsi! I have definitely looked at this wizzard beofre, but it says that you can only import things that you would normally post in the GL and that you cannot import transactions that effect linked accounts, so I wasnt sure whether or not payroll transactions from ADP would be able to import!

You may be missing one important concept here.  If you are using ADP to do your payroll, do you really need payroll linked accounts in your file?  I might suggest the answer is no and therefore there would not be any limitations to your import.
