Sage 2023.1 Payroll Tax Calculation not matching PDOC

SOLVED

Hi there, just downloaded and installed the Sage 2023.1 and running first payrolls of 2023.  I alway double check the Sage amounts with PDOC https://apps.cra-arc.gc.ca/ebci/rhpd/beta/ng/entry to ensure the amounts match and usually they do (perhaps 1 cent out sometimes), however with two separate payrolls for two different companies the PDOC and the Sage Tax calculations disgree by a significant amount in payrall terms ie Sage net pay is $2.05 lower than PDOC.

The CPP is matching and the employees are EI exempt.

The Province is correct, the claim amounts match and the pay period frequency matches..and the gross salary matches.

Has anyone else had this mismatch?

The fact that the CPP matches makes me think this is a bug in the Sage income tax calculation.

I am reluctant to use the Sage amounts and will use the PDOC calculations until the Sage helpdesk opens on Tuesday but wanted to put it out there in case anyone else is having the same issue.

    Hi

Thank you for reaching out. The support team tells me that R&D is aware of reports regarding Sage 50 Canada payroll calculations not matching the amts of the gov's calculator in version 2023.1.

We should have more details available later today. Will update you with any news.

    Warm Regards,

The team needs a bit more time, apologies for the delayed response. We're now looking at sharing a communication about this tomorrow.

Any communication/yet? My list of PDOC payrolls to enter in to Sage when it is fixed is getting longer!  I am not why checking against the PDOC is not a pre-launch test for the new year's version - the CRA make the 2023 PDOC available in late Nov/early Dec.

I have been using PDOC to verify a number of my payroll entries in 2023.1 and have found no discrepancies. This early in the new year I have only checked about 30 entries.

There must be a setting in Sage that is not set correctly or not being used by the program correctly. When can we know about this problem and what is causing it? Is it affected only by province or is it general?

Which Province are you doing the payroll for, Cara?

I just tested this today and found no discrepancy either on basic deductions.  posted an announcement last week about this as well but did not indicate any details to let us know what to avoid or watch for.  It's hard to protect our clients if we don't know the details.  I know last year there were problems with the PDOC calculations that caused users to fake the amount of EI previously deducted to get the calculation to continue so it's hard to know who has the correct calculation.

I've calculated differences in tax based on commissions added to a paycheque on top of salary.  Payment Evolution calculates it the same as the PDOC but Sage 50 handles commissions based on the fact that it will be paid the same every period, not infrequently.  As far as I know, Sage 50 has never handled commissions on an infrequent bonus calculation basis like the PDOC bonus calculation does.  I do not know if this is the cause of the discrepancy reported above or not but if it is, this is not new to my knowledge.

    Have you seen this?

    Hi Richard:

    Happy New Year!

You are correct, Sage 50 has never handled commissions or bonuses correctly, however, I have never had to worry about this angle of payroll nor do I expect to be concerned due to my specific client base.

I just wish we had more details as to the components of the payroll that is in error when compared to PDOC. Just as important would be to know the Province. I hope someone will enlighten all of us on what to watch when using Sage 50 payroll module.

    Hello
I am in Ontario (26 PPDS) and after reading the announcement, verified my payroll against PDOC.  EI and CPP calculations were accurate for all and the tax was accurate on bi-weekly earning under $2700 (in my experience ).  There were no commissions or bonuses only bi-weekly salary and non-cash benefits not insurable for EI.   Discrepancies in greater tax deducted in Sage ranged from $.43 to $11.82.
