Sage v27.1 Install Errors Windows 10

Hello

I am having issues installing Sage v27.1 on two windows 10 machines

One machine is French language, though I changed it to English for the install because I thought it could be causing issues.

The error I get every time I run the install is "Error 350: No action taken as a system reboot is required"

Here is a list of troubleshooting I've attempted

Uninstalling v24 and trying to install v27 clean

Restarted multiple times

Creating local user admin and running from that instead of microsoft account

Cleaning registry

Running as admin

Changing install location

Changing install location permissions

Changing system language

The other machine is in German, and the error I get on it is "Package Sage 50 Accounts v27 Data Access Component's returned code 1603 (Error_INSTALL_FAILURE)

Error 1920: Service ' Sage 50 Accounts control v27' (Sage 50 Accounts Control v27) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services

Both these machines are administrator users that I'm running the install from.

Any way I can get some assistance here? I've tried most of what I can think of

Hi Julie.

To help us diagnose the issue, can I please ask you to confirm if you are able to see any log/text files on the German language machine under the following location:

C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\Sage 50 Accounts Control Service\Logs

Additionally, does the following folder exist on that machine:

C:\Windows\Temp\.net\Sage.UK.Accounts50.Data.Service.Control_v27

Firstly we actually got this installed on the other machine so it's only the french machine with the error 350 I need to fix now. The other one my employee solved this is how he said

"I think there was some conflict with the old Sage installation (especially the automatic update service). I tried a lot, including cleaning the registry, deleting file manually etc.). And at some point, just when I wanted to give up, it suddenly worked. It was a special problem on my system, nothing general, I think. (I did the upgrade from v24 to v27 also on my home laptop - and it worked without the smallest problem.)"

Appreciate the response. I checked this on the machine still having issues (french one)The second folder does not exist, within temp there is no .net directory.

There is also no "Sage 50 Accounts Control Service" Directory

There is a logs directory within

C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\

But it is empty.

Any ideas?

Here is an updated log file from my latest install attempt after I created that directory and copied the state.rsm file from a computer that the install worked on and had the same directory

Hi Julie.

Did you attempt to restart the machine after copying the missing file?

And another thing to check, is Windows update enabled on that failing machine? Or are there any pending Windows updates?

Hi Ali

Really appreciate you taking the time to assist with this. I did try to to restart and still nothing. Also - I tried running sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt which said it found and fixed problems but still getting the same issue.

I will try installing the pending updates now and let you know.

One more thing to potentially check. If you go to Control Panel, which versions of Sage 50 can you see installed there?

There are no Sage 50 installs listed. I did remove the old one to try a clean install - still nothing.

One interesting thing, if i try to manually install the latest version of C++ redistributable, it fails and says the similar message "No action taken as a system restart is necessary" if I restart, same thing.

Yes that seems to be related to the state.rsm file issue. We need to install the C++ redistributable as a dependency. For some reason the C++ redistributable is failing to install, and causing Sage 50 to fail as a result.

Which versions of the C++ redistributable can you see installed in Control Panel?

If you go to C:\ProgramData\Package Cache, search for "vc_redist", how many vc_redit executables do you get?

If the search finds any, you can try uninstalling them through the command line (as admin) by running the executable with the /uninstall command. For example:

VC_redist.x86.exe /uninstall

or

VC_redist.x64.exe /uninstall

4 are listed, 2 VC_redist.x86.exe and 1 vc_redist.x64.exe and 1 vc_redist.2015.x86.exe

Trying to run uninstall via cmd line results in the same uninstall box coming up and the same error

OK no problem.

Think you mentioned changing/removing some registry entries. Did you try renaming the following keys:

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\PendingFileRenameOperations

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\RebootRequired

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\RebootPending

The first one I renamed, it just recreated another one with some .tmp files listed in the value.

The other 2 dont exist for me to rename or edit

Sorry for the late reply.

I have spoken to another colleague of mine to see if we can get to the bottom of the issue. There wasn't anything Sage 50 specific that explains the problem, especially as the issue occurs when installing other packages.

The following Microsoft forum post goes through a similar issue, but with SQL Server. The suggestion was to try and re-install other software on the machine as there could be some inconsistencies with the Windows registry, which may be resolved by re-installing other software you've installed before Sage 50. Worth trying that to see if it resolves your problem.

Thanks for the assistance and getting back to me regardless.

I arrived at a similar conclusion myself - I think I am going to try a refresh/reset of windows itself as it's clearly some level of corruption within the OS (at least it seems that way to me) which wasn't fixed by the sfc
