Sage 100 standard 2016 very slow report manager/excel workbook and BI Tools/add account

SOLVED

The place I'm at recently upgraded to the Sage 100 Standard 2016, not sure what they were using before, the answers I have been able to get are MAS90 or SMI.

The accounting department is using Report Manager, going to what they need and clicking Run. This will bring up a box that does some SQL database operations and then will say building Excel workbook, this goes for about 5 minutes.

After this is loaded, if they try to use BI Tools/add account to something in Excel, the dialog box pops up, but every single digit entered takes about 30 seconds to a minute.

This is running through a HyperV VM, and I uninstalled symantec to make sure the anti-virus wasn't causing issues.

From what I can gather I assume the database or something isn't configured correctly, but I don't really know anything about this system. If there is any further information needed or anything I can do to help find an answer to my problem just tell me.

So I couldn't get a count, but when I asked they had the general ledger printed out, this was about 6 pages front and back.

I also found out that they didn't go through a business partner or reseller to get this upgrade, they went from MAS90 to Sage 100 standard ERP through the in-house IT (which is now me) and there isn't any documentation on what was done. This also changed the reporting software from SMI to SIR.

It seems like every other module works that people are using, like Accounts Payable and General Ledger, the only one that has issues is the report manager and report viewer.

How much RAM is on the workstation that runs the report. I had a client that had 12 GB and a report I created for them took like 10 minutes to generate. They bumped it up to 32 GB the report took 90 seconds.

You can also add a filter to the Report Designer Sub Reports to limit the # of years of data that is extracted. The default is all years.

The workstation is running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, Service Pack 1 and has 16 GB of ram, and and is a 64 bit OS. This was running on a workstation with only 8GB of ram and the time that it took was still the same.

When you run the report in report manager it asks for the Fiscal Year and Budget Code, I assume that putting 2016 in Fiscal Year will make the report only pull that year?

    That should be enough.

I would look at filtering the # of years in the Sub Reports. Do you know if they have a license for the Connector module?

It doesn't look like it, when I try to launch the the module it says "you are not licensed to use this module".

To add the year filter to these reports yourself you would need the Connector module.

Reports I've built for clients I always ask how many years of data they need for the report and then add the filter to the Container. The clients don't need the Connector module. They just import report I send them.

Sounds like they have been running the Sage 100/MAS90 for awhile and probably have years worth of history stored in the GL files. Like I said earlier the default report send all years. So if they have 12 years of history the Excel output will have 12 years of data which is a drain on the resources.

The work station is a server?

So the thing I guess I don't understand is why the BI Tools/Add Account would have been working fine in MAS90 and SMI, but as soon as they upgraded to Sage 100 Standard 2016/SIR it is now taking several seconds with each key stroke.

Is there a different file format or something else that you could think of that I should check?

I noticed there are several Union Sub Reports in Report Manager. They have about 40 in there but only 2 are selected. I'm not entirely sure what these sub reports are doing, is there anyway to look at them or do I need to have the Connector module to edit them?

The Windows Server 2008 is the OS that was chosen when they setup the VM on HyperV. Not sure why it was chosen but it might have to do with multiple remote desktop connections that they thought they might need in the future if more SIR licenses were bought.

This thread is going round in circles due to a lack of understanding of the basics of Sage Intelligence. My head is spinning trying to follow this thread and I know my way around Sage Intelligence.

I'm not trying to be mean, but to quote a standard question by BigLouie, "have you talked with your Sage Partner?" It may cost you a few dollars, but I suspect a face to face consultation would quickly have a better understanding of how it works and get your problem resolved much faster than the 20 questions being played out here..
