I haven't read the release notes, but am guessing it's a much easier way for users to locate resources on the network (forms, reports) without having to navigate a UNC path or fuss with a mapped drive.

We talked with tech support (level 1) about this, and they claimed that this local folder was added simply to overcome the occasional issue of help files not displaying inside Accpac. 

Hello Gentlemen, I just came across this scenario of Sage300Local when running WSSETUP for v2020. I noticed that Sage 300 wouldn't run if the registry setting on Programs is pointing to this folder. However if I leave the folder as is but change the setting in the registry to point to the Server, I don't have the problem opening Sage 300. This is so confusing since there is no reference to this in the documentation.
