Users Permission to Run Sage 300

SUGGESTED

Hi,

A customer with internal IT policies don't want that users that will run Sage 300 2024 application (desktop version) have Administration rights (Local Administrator). Is it possible some way? Any recommendation?

Thank you

  • Local Admin rights are only needed to run workstation setup - as long as you remember to run regacc.exe as administrator once you finish the workstation setup.  Also make sure you run the program and sign on once to ensure the ODBC entry is created.

  • Hi Shane,

    Ok but once you Run Workstation setup for those users. Those users just belong to a group that for example only have access (read/write) to Sage 300 share and thats it? I ask because always at its Sage 300 icon we allway setup Run As Administrator....and IT doesnt want that !!!

    Thanks

    Hi  please don't run Sage 300 "as Administrator" as that will cause a myriad of issues not at least with the Financial Reporter and other areas when interacting with the file system.  As  said, always run Regacc after you install Workstation Setup (I normally log into the workstation as a domain admin, do the install, run Regacc and when finished log out and let the regular user in).  If you're having to run Sage 300 "As Administrator" to get it to work then there is a problem with your configuration.  With the Share, always use UNC to refer to it and grant Domain Users read/write permissions.  If you receive an error with that you can try escalating the permissions until everything works (the newer versions of Sage 300 shouldn't need Full Control anymore) so start with read/write, and then modify permissions if needed.

    Remember your registry entries for HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\ACCPAC INTERNATIONAL, INC.\ACCPAC\Configuration should be something like Programs = \\<sageserver>\sage\sage300apps   SharedData - \\<sageserver>\sage\sage300shared   and don't forget your system environment path should be \\<sageserver>\sage\sage300apps\runtime;

    With older versions of Sage 300 running on Windows 10 and 11 it can help to put a registry entry under HKEY_Current_User for the standard user if there are permissions issues in HKLM.  So if problems persist, as the standard user open the Registry and add \\HKCU\Software\ACCPAC INTERNATIONAL, INC.\Accpac\Configuration   then add Programs = \\<sageserver>\sage\sage300apps   SharedData - \\<sageserver>\sage\sage300shared.

    If you can't see the Sage 300 path in CMD and can't access the Sage 300 tools like dbload32 (database load) from the Run command as a Standard User then you have a problem with your configuration.
