We use Sage 5.6A 500 ERP at our offices.

Whenever I run a custom report (to generate sales numbers), 50% of the time the program will crash when I try to export it into an excel data file. 

The report runs FINE, we can see the information in the report generated by ACCPAC, but it's only when we try to export it into a data file does the program crash.

The crash typically happens when we get to the screen where we want to save the data file.
