Working on Sage 300 Legacy Module Projects in VB6

I have legacy projects for Sage 300 modules written in Visual Basic 6.

I am trying to get Visual Studio 6 / VB6 installed on Windows 8 successfully, but am having trouble. Would it be possible to build/maintain these older projects in a more current version of Visual Studio or other operating systems (ie in a Windows 7 VM)?

I am just not sure if there is an easy way of currently maintaining these projects.

I am hesitant to "upgrade" them with visual studio, since I won't know if any build errors are a result of my build process or the upgrade.

VB6 runs on Windows 10 just fine, I know from experience. And you cannot "upgrade" them to DotNet, the technologies are totally different.

A big lifesaver for doing work on your own machine (or virtual machine) is to set the registry entry EnableLUA to 0. This will essentially turn off UAC and you don't have to worry about installing/running VB and/or Sage 'As Administrator'.

Do not do this on a computer other than your own. UAC is a pain, but it does play a role.
