Sage 300 2023 and Custom Crystal Report

SUGGESTED

Failed to retrieve data  from the database error is received from Sage user interface when running a custom report created when client bought sage. Report works on sage 2014, 2019, 2020 and 2022 environments but doesnt on 2023 version. At crystal level get 2 errors as per image shared below. Verify database doesnt give any errors .

Any help or insight will be appreciated to fix this.

    Hi,

Did you export the report from the older version before running in the most recent upgrade? Maybe try if not.

    Hi KRISHNEIL,

Your screen shot shows an error while running a report from Crystal Report Designer. At this point, the error is not associated with the SAGE version. Most of the time , CR reports go directly to the database tables. You need to make sure it runs successfully in CR Designer before adding that report to a SAGE screen.

The error is about connection to the database. First , you need to check what is the database user and password the report uses to connect to the database. I hope you have some experience with CR Designer. You need to go to Field Explorer and then the connection details:

Click on Set Datasource Allocation and you will get the details of Database type, Data Source Name, Database name and user ID specified for this report :

You may need to change them for the new database server. Also check the defined database type as you may want to use ODBC.

Second, when you run the report in CR Designer, you should get the following prompt:

If Use Trusted Connection check box is selected, the domain user you are signed on  must be defined as login user in the database server and have access rights to the database. Otherwise, ensure that Login ID and password are credentials defined in the Security of the new database.

Once the report runs successfully from CR Designer, then you should test it from SAGE.

    I hope this helps.
