Server and OS Upgrade

SUGGESTED

Hello,

I have a client on Sage 500 v 2017.  This is was the main ERP for a smaller company that was bought by a larger one.

I am being asked to upgrade the server - both the Windows OS and  the Sql Server.

(I am reluctant to upgrade the sage 500 version as we have a customization by an unknown developer, but that might have to be considered)

Ideally, I would provision a new server with Windows 2019, SQL Server 2019, restore the sage databases, point the client to the new server and I'd be done.

is that possible?  if not, please elaborate.

I m happy to hire a knowledgeable expert to assist with the task.

Regards

Habib

The v2019 upgrade should pull you from v2017.  The v2019 upgrade will pull you to v2018 and then v2019, ideally in a seamless manor.  The v2023 upgrade works similarly as it will will you through all the two previous intermediary versions.  The number of versions back that an upgrade supports is limited as the upgrades get more and more complicated.  We generally support two previous versions per upgrade.  Hope this is clearer and explains why it is this way.

Just note that if upgrading more than one version (2017-> 2018 -> 2019), it should work seamlessly.  However, depending upon your install and customizations, sometimes it is better to run the upgrades one version at a time.
