Due to the complexity of the underlying data, an end-user cannot change the valuation method of an item within the Sage 500 client.

The recommended best practice is to

(1) set the existing item to inactive/discontinued

(2) process a physical count or IM Adjustment to bring the on-hand qty to zero

(3) create a new item with the correct valuation method, and

(4) use an IM Adjustment to bring the quantity back in to the new Item ID

That's the conclusion we had figured...
