Peachtree 2010 bank accounts messed up

One of our clients called today and informed us that two of the company files has incorrect information in the bank accounts.

One file has transactions missing from February. Client is certain that she has reconciled the bank statement.  when she does it, she check marks transactions in the Printed bank statement. Nevertheless, she concedes that perhaps she may have not actually done and it is only a few transactions from Feb.

The other company has a lot of information missing in the bank accounts and one account is  showing a negative balance in millions. Client claims that at any given time there is about 20-45 K in the account. And according to her there should be 45K in the account at present.

We observed the following,

  1. except for a few, most deposits are missing.
  2. Many of the checks have a GL Account of “detail”.
  3. The opening balance for the year is negative in millions.
  4.  You cannot edit any transactions , The Edit symbol in the column  is missing.

Client diligently backs up when promoted by Peach tree and there are many PTB files to work with.

We restored a few and the negative balance only reduced by a few thousand dollars.

We then started restoring year ends of 2017 ,2016, 2015 & 2014, we could have continued but did not see the point. Even in December 2014 there was a negative balance in millions albeit less and all the  points mentioned above were observed.

The JRNLHDR.DAT file in each of the restored companies had the appropriate date matching the backup.

There are about 5 other companies on the computer which do not have a problem. Client informs that all was OK on Sunday 03/3/2018 when the accountant was over. Have to believe client as anybody would have had a conniption when you see a negative number in millions, when there is typically a positive balance.

Are there factors outside the Company folder that could possibly be causing this issue ?

It sounds like they might have a corrupted company if they are missing transactions. If you were to run the general ledger report for all 24 open periods do you get any errors such as a GL footing error which would indicate corrupted or problems in the GL.

I don't think a virus would cause this problem. Usually a virus would not allow you to open the company.

I am only somewhat familiar with peachtree , so please correct me if I am wrong.

It is my understanding that the company file or rather files are all within one folder.

Each backup was restored to a different folder.

The backups we restored went back all the way to 2014.

Client maintains that the problem was observed for the first time today.

Yet each backup we restored had the same issue.
