Installing Sage 50 2019 on Windows 7 64-bit. HOW?

I'm at a total loss here. I have being trying to install Sage 50 2019 onto a Window 7 Pro 64-bit machine for 2 days.

I finally reached out to tech support on chat, and after a little back and forth was told that I needed to downgrade the machine to 32-bit in order for Pervasive to work. I've double checked with the client and the system at his office is running on a Windows 7 Home 64-bit. So, I'm assuming the 64-bit isn't the issue.

A little background - my client had me attempt a full install of PT 2009, and then 2012. I was able to get 2012 to work, but he got into something and downloaded a cleaner/accelerator from AOL :D and called me back to tell me that everything on the system was "just gone". Since that time, I have been sent a download link that Sage sent to his assistant and attempted to install Sage 50 2019 from that link's download.

  • Several times I get to the 1st step of the 3 steps of installation and get an error message that the database cannot connect
  • A few times I have been able to get the installation to complete with no errors, however, on completion, the icons and the links in the start menu say that the target is not available, would I like to delete these shortcuts
  • Each time I have uninstalled all components listed in Control Panel and rebooted
  • I just attempted to install Pervasive only to see if there were any customizations I could make and then ran the install for Sage - both completed successfully, but the shortcuts to the program still do not work and ask to be deleted
    • at this time, Pervasive is showing as running in the taskbar

Could this be that we received an incorrect version link for the download?

Am I missing something glaringly obvious?

Any and all suggestions appreciated.

    Please tell us the exact error message you are getting.  It does not make sense that it is looking for a database on an install.   You put the company in after the program is installed.

    The first few times that I got it, it would hang during install and give me a message saying that it could not connect to the database and that I may need to manually configure the firewall - this may have been because he had previous installations of Peachtree and Pervasive had not been uninstalled since they had been removed. It wouldn't let me complete Sage 50 install.

    After running into this a few times, I uninstalled Pervasive and stopped receiving that message. At that time, I also - on the suggestion of the KB file I found with "cannot connect to database during installation" - moved the files from C:\Program Files (x86) to C:\Program Files. I could complete the installs now, but the shortcuts didn't have their expected icons and would give the message that the shortcut can't find the target.

    I just now redirected the installation back to Program Files (x86) after looking at the properties of the shortcuts and searching for the executable in the x86 directory, and the installation completed. I was able to open the program from the desktop shortcut, it prompted me to activate the program, and then to open or create a new company.

    Problem solved. Uninstall Pervasive if there are any other versions that have previously connected through it.
