Account out of balance

I am new to my bookkeeping position and I inherited a payroll account that is out of balance.  The ending GL balance in Sage is higher than the actual cash in the account, leaving an unreconciled difference.  How do I make an adjustment so that the ending GL in Sage shows the correct amount of cash in the account?  (FYI I believe the problem originated with a lost payroll check that was improperly voided long before I took the position.)  Thank you.
