Sage 50 2019 - Import Dist limit - Invoice import

SUGGESTED

Can some provide a current limit on the number of distribution lines in a .csv file used to

for produce Invoices?

We have one with 656 which is failing with the Number of Distributions error.

I would like to know the number, no guesses.

Best Regards

Do you mean you have 656 lines on one invoice or 656 total lines in your import file containing many invoices? I don't believe there's a limit to the number of lines in an import file. I've seen files with over 100,000 lines import successfully.  But the "Number of Distributions" error has nothing to do with the total number of lines in the import file.

There is a limit to the number of lines for an individual invoice. If all 656 lines are for one invoice, that most likely is over the limit. I think I've heard something like 99 lines but I'm not sure ((sorry about the guess). Maybe someone else remembers. But if you're getting an error on Number of Distributions, and those 656 lines aren't all for one invoice, it's most likely a problem with the contents of that field.

First of all, it's a required field, so if you leave it out of your import file you'll get an error.

Second, the number of distributions should be equal to the number of lines related to that particular transaction (invoice in your case). That is how Sage 50 knows where each transaction starts and ends within the import file. If there 10 lines in the file for that invoice, then all 10 lines  must have 10 in the Number Of Distributions column.

I appreciate you getting in the batters box on this.

I have been importing data into Peachtree, then Sage Quantum, then Sage 50 for 20 years. I just went into an old Peachtree 2006 install to see if the DDL or .csv import help might give some numbers, but no luck.

Perhaps this particular  import process is non-conventional. The order that caused the Number of Distributions error has 70 line items, with 656 total lines, but generally 5-6 gl entries per item. The import consists of a zero costed description, then the supporting GL transactions that sum to the cost of the the item.

Anyway, somebody knows, not sure why specs aren't provided somewhere.

We have successfully split the order from the print production software (where the import is pulled from), so the problem has been solved. But it would be nice to know the answer.

    Cheers.

Hi There is a limit to the number of distributions of 147. This information is in the Help file under Sales Journal Import Fields in case you need any additional information regarding importing either the Sales Journal, or other files.

    KathleenF,

    Found your reference. Thanks.

It's very common for us to import orders which exceed that number. In fact the order which prompted this was split into two imports. They would have 325 as # of distributions.

I think I'll play with this offline, and see how the Error is triggered. I'm sure it will be worth the effort. Anything I find, I will share.

    So many thanks
