How to stop updates in Sage 50?

I have Sage 50 Pro Accounting 2020 installed in December of 2019. Perpetual license version and is currently working well on my computer.

Started using Peachtree in about 2006 and the one thing that has been consistent is there are always new bugs introduced with each and every version.  I want to stay static - stay in current version until I can't stay any longer. But now I keep getting a message to install updates every time I exit the software. One of these times, I am going to click 'yes' to install updates by accident...

So now they're pushing 50 R2021.0 upgrade with no information regarding licensing.

1 -- Is it safe yet to install this upgrade?

2 -- will installing this version affect my perpetual license.

3 -- Can I get these notifications turned off without updating?

  • We have been using Sage 50 for over 10 years and we agree that bugs are introduced with each release and update. Over the years we have learned to wait to implement each release and update, unless the current bugs or glitches are worse than the news ones we will pick up going with the newer version. It becomes a death by sword or poison type of decision most of the time.

    1. We got bit by implementing R2021.0 early, primarily by the performance issues and the new bugs. We ended rolling back to R2020.2 a day later and do not recommend going to R2021.0. We will hold off for R2021.1 and see how it works for others before implementing it.

    2. With a perpetual license, you should be able to stay in the stable version that works for you. As we understand it, as long as you are paying Sage for your license, you can use whatever version within reason, but they may not support you on an older version. We had that issue when we rolled back to R2020.2 and had an issue that Tech Support refused to resolve since we were not using the current version. And that was two weeks ago when they were just rolling out R2021.0.

    3. Unfortunately, we have not found a way to disable the upgrade notification with the US version. There has to be a way to modify an exe file or the registry, but we have not figured it out yet. Simply deleting the downloaded update file only works for that session, as the update file is re-downloaded in the next session.

Do you want to share the issue that Sage refused to resolve?   Maybe we can help you.

Thanks, read my post titled 'Sage Drive Management Center - Phantom User with 2020.2'. Our experience with Tech Support is if they cannot fix it with a uninstall and reinstall or turning off Pervasive and then turning it back on, they will push you to a KB article. Recently Sage refused to help us with an Office 365 interface issue because we purchased Office 365 directly from Microsoft. The issue ended up being on Sage's end, but they refused to even look into it for us.

    Hi

Very sorry to hear this. Using the email tied to your Sage City profile, I was able to locate your initial support ticket 800xxxxx164 with chat on July 29. I'm not seeing any notes beyond their request for you to call in so I've forwarded your comments onto the Sage 50 US support management team and asked them to review and follow up. Will update you with any news.

    Warm Regards,

    Erzsi

So... can you answer any of the questions to the original post?

You should have notes from my call to Tech Support on 07/29, I used the chat support ticket number in an attempt to get through the queue faster. I did not receive an email with the KB article(s) as promised, so I assume Tech Support dumped my ticket. Any updates would we appreciated.

Unfortunately, management from Sage 50 US support does not have newer suggestions beyond what was suggested on the 29th at this time.
