2021 Installation freezes on step 2 of 3

SOLVED

I have seen KBs and questions about Sage updates freezing on steps 1 & 3 of installation, but of course I get stuck on step 2 of 3 with no documentation that I can find.

I have installed/updated Sage on 5 of 7 users in the company with no issues (have not started the last user yet).  There were no issues and the update completed smoothly.  This user (the owner of course), gets to Step 2 of 3 and completes about half-way, maybe a tad over and then just sits there.  Has not failed after over an hour of waiting. The only way to stop it is through Task Manager.

Any help or pointing me to a KB would be greatly appreciated.

This is copied from KB ID 36030. Hopefully one of them will solve the problem for you.

Section I: Disable anti virus program

While leaving the installation running, disable your anti virus program. If installation does not continue, follow the next section.

    Section II: Disable UAC

    1. Stop the installation.
    2. Disable UAC. See Article ID 10198: How to disable User Account Control (UAC).
    3. Restart the installation. If the installation stalls in the same place for several minutes, continue with the next section.

Section III: Install program while in Selective Startup

    1. Start your computer in Selective Startup. See Article ID 12735: How to boot into selective startup?.
    2. Be sure, after the machine boots back up, to open the task manager, and make sure all Startup items are disabled.
    3. Restart the installation. If the installation stalls in the same place for several minutes, continue with the next section.

Section IV: Manually remove the program

    1. Follow Article ID 10169: How to manually remove the program.
Note: You may not find the program listed in the Programs and Features window (Step 5). If this is the case, skip that step and continue with the rest of the steps.
    2. Restart the installation.

Section V: If installing over the network

    1. Copy over the entire installation folder locally.
    2. Double-click the peachw folder.
    3. Double-click the install folder.
    4. Right click _setup.exe and Run as Administrator.
    5. Verify the installation works.

Section VI: Two msi.exec.exe processes running

1.Go to task manager and end task on one of the msi.exec. processes

Thanks for the KB StephenC.  Turns out I guess I wasn't patient enough.  I let the install run overnight and it finally finished.  I know that it sat at the 50% mark of the step 2 of 3 point for over 4 hours before finally moving on sometime during the night.

I'm glad you got it to work. I just wish I could have been on site billing you by the hour for that installation Wink
