Vendor was acquired by another company. Should we change Vendor name & ID, or create a new Vendor?

We were informed that one of our vendors got bought by a new company.  We are seeking any thoughts on the pros or cons of whether to create a new Vendor, or just change the current Vendor name and ID.  Our only thought is that we'd like to just change the Vendor's name & ID to the new company name so that we keep all the purchase history right there.

Does anyone see any reason not to do this?   Thanks in advance for any input.
