Sage 50 offers both a desktop solution and a cloud-hybrid solution. The cloud-hybrid solution still requires installation of Sage 50 onto local computer that will be utilizing the software, and it also requires that a FULL COPY of the database reside on each local computer that will be utilizing the software; changes are they pushed-pulled between the remote computers, the cloud, and the host computer. As for API or other integrations with Sage 50, visit the Sage 50 Business Cloud Marketplace for some (not all) of the recommended integration solutions, https://us-marketplace.sage.com/en-us/home. There is no open API for Sage 50. The link that I previously sent for the Sage 50 Business Cloud Marketplace is for companies that have written integrated solutions. The SDK is what you would be looking for, and you'll have to contact Sage directly for access to that as I can't find an online link.
