How can I add a text field to my purchase orders.

Need a text field on purchase orders to indicate the sales representatives name or code for sorting open puchase orders by this same field.

Is there a mechanism in place to validate the accuracy and consistency of the sales representative's name a or code entered into the text field to minimize errors and discrepancies in sorting?
