Year End Close - Option to see 2 years of Payroll?

SUGGESTED

Good morning,

We process payroll weekly and the first payroll of the new year always seems to pose questions about the year end process.  I understand that we can close the payroll separately which will zero our EE balances and allow us to begin processing 2015 payroll.  My controller is wondering if we can have payroll for 2 years within the same company?  In my research on year end close, it doesn't seem like this would be possible - do we have to close 2014 payroll before starting 2015 payroll?

Ok...so what is your recommendation in this scenario.  We close out payroll 2014 the last weekend in December (#26/27) in order to begin processing payroll dated 1/2/2015.  Then, on Tuesday, 12/30 we need to process a termination check.  Is it possible to adjust the 2014 payroll year after it has been closed? Seems to me we should just delay any terminations.

Aloha...Here's what I've done before:  After you close payroll, and if you do have additional check(s) you need to enter for 2014, enter the check(s) in the Payroll Archive that was created in the Payroll close process.  Post the payroll to the G/L in the Archive.  Pull a G/L report of the posting (or drill down to the posting from the payroll record(s)).  Manually enter a Journal Transaction (Menu 1-3)  into your current Company w/the info from the report you pulled from the Archive.
