Remote Time Module - Licenses Hung-up

SUGGESTED

We use Sage's Remote Time module to enter payroll time from our job sites.  We have (2) licenses for this module.  Occasionally we find that a Remote Time license get's hung-up and doesn't release for others to use, as our job site's are accessing this module through Remote Desktop Services.  I have two specific questions:

1) Is there a way to tell what windows user the system (Sage Remote Time) shows as having the current licenses in use?  (I've looked at the log viewer and don't see a good way to tell specifically what licenses are shown as in use.  I've also looked on our server where the software resides and gone through Share & Storage Management / Manage Open Files to specifically look for LCK (locked files per module).  Sage Remote Time files don't seem to show up within this view, however other modules licenses will show up).

2) Our "fix" in the past has only been to restart the server where the software is installed and this has worked.  I'm wondering if instead of restarting the whole server and disturbing all the users, if there is a specific service listed on the server that could be shut-down and restarted to reset the licening without restarting the whole server.

I appreciate any help anyone can provide.  This problem has been the only draw back to using the Sage Remote Time module.

    Great questions Shane!

I think we can answer both questions in one go.

There is a utility on the server called the Pervasive Software Monitor. This tool allows us to see what users have what files open on the pervasive engine and also to close those files without a reboot of the entire machine.

Can you tell me what version of Sage 300 CRE you are using? I ask because if you are on 13.1 you may need a patch to allow us to close open files using this utility.

If you do a search on the new knowledgebase at support.na.sage.com for:

How do I use the Pervasive Software Monitor utility to unlock or close a file on a server that uses a Windows operating system?

You should get article ID 18202.

This article gives instructions on how to view and clear out the users on a server, since your Remote Time is by itself it is your RT server/host so this process will work just fine.

Let me know if that answers your questions and if there is anything else I can assist with.

    Kyle,

I forgot to mention that I also checked the Pervasive Software Monitor and couldn't see any other files open other than the one user that I knew for sure was in Remote Time.  I could however use some help to make sure I'm identifying all of the correct files (i.e. remote time files).  We are on version 13.1 so would need the patch that you mentioned.  Thank you for the quick response, I really appreciate it and value the Sage City for feedback.  Thank you

    Shane,

I wouldn't expect to see any other files if RT is the only program being run on this machine.

If you search the KB for 13.1 Release you will get the release notes with associated downloads including the pervasive fix.

Unless the person who was in RT actually had a file open you may not see anything RT specific. For instance if I am in Tasks, Enter Time I will see:

    pvdata\Current.rtt

    pvdata\Master.rtm

    pvdata\Current_rtt\rtt_h1.mkd

    pvdata\Current_rtt\rtt_s1.mkd

    pvdata\Master_rtm\rtm_h1.mkd

    pvdata\Master_rtm\rtm_s1.mkd

Anything RT specific will have RT in the file name somewhere.

If all else fails and it seems the license itself is what is stuck open and not a file we can stop and start Pervasive on the machine. Is this a server installation of Windows like 2003 or 2008 or is this a workstation like Windows 7 or XP?
