Thanks. I followed up on the link, and after doing some exploring ended up reading instructions about migrating to a different server. Tried copying the security folder contents to our new server without success. Will just set up users manually vs editing registry, etc. For future backup purposes, I think it might be easier to just do a disk image in case of disc failure, etc.
