CARES Act: U.S. Payroll reporting for Sage 300 CRE

For information about the CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security) Act and how to obtain reports from Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate, see KB article 104167 How can I provide Payroll reporting for the CARES Act (H.R. 748)?

  • is there no way to track Covid sick wages in Sage payroll? We are doing our 941's manually and tracking wages outside of the system. is Sage not going to help with getting our 941 data correct? It's definitely disappointing to be filing these manually. thanks!

Hi Tina, I'm not a payroll expert but I reviewed the various KB articles as they were written, so when I saw your post on a Friday afternoon, I want to help if I can. I found KB article 103397 titled, How do I set up pays to pay employees associated with the HR_6201 Families First Coronavirus Response Act. Does this have the information you need? There are several Covid19 related KB articles; recommend using Covid as a search term in the knowledgebase.  The manual nature of filling is due to several factors - IRS did not finalize Form 941 until just a few days prior to June 30, and so much of the form is dependent on which relief options you took advantage of, how you set up your pays, etc. Sage created 2 new reports to help you identify covid related wages if you have been tracking them in payroll. See KB articles 105192 - 941 Reports for Second Quarter, KB 104105 - Are there reports I can use to track my COVID19 Pays and Employer Social Security Amounts (reports linked), and 2 training videos attached to KBs 105499 and 105502. The Aatrix Form 941 and Worksheet 1 will prefill some content between the 2 forms, but much of it must be entered manually. I hope this helps, Tina!

Thanks Judi. I'm just surprised that there's not a way to be able to track the Covid-19 sick and family leave wages and have the information carry over to the 941 instead of having to do it manually. Was hoping since most of the other payroll softwares are not forcing us to do it manually that there was an option in Sage that I wasn't aware of that was a bit more helpful around not doing it manually.

Oh, I see. I'm reasoning that it's due to the fact that this is a new feature, not finalized early enough by the IRS for Aatrix to be able to accommodate the various ways different payroll systems  might have set up the pays. I am hopeful there will be refinements to this process as it becomes more "normal" (is anything normal anymore?) so we can automate more of it but we shall see! As we approach each quarter, be sure to check the knowledgebase for updates or look for complimentary release training on Sage U. Thanks, Tina!
