I am unaware of any specific change in the program, but the default method which appears in any book running under the GAAP rules, is set on the Book Defaults tab under Edit company which you can change to be any of the GAAP methods available.

Now if you are talking about the Tax book, SF is the default for Property Type Z since there are some rules, mostly for off the shelf software assets, which make the SF the correct choice.
