Every organization can benefit from technology across its HR operations. It only takes a few moments to quantify the benefits in areas such as recruiting effectiveness, cost control, and employee retention.
Across five posts, we will highlight how technology can help HR teams optimize their operations. The series [begins here]. In this third post, we look at Consistent and Reliable Compliance Management.
HR is a key player within any business’s compliance structure. Federal, state, & local laws and regulations demand HR professionals understand & comply to ensure their organizations avoid costly fines & other penalties. A sampling of the laws regulating the employer-employee relationship include:
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Establishes the minimum wage and rights to overtime pay for certain workers
State and Federal civil rights laws: Prohibits employers from considering race, gender, age, or other “protected” status when making hiring and firing decisions
Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA): Regulates employers who offer pension or welfare benefit plans for their employees
Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA): Grants certain employees the right to unpaid leave each year in specific circumstances and the right to be restored to the same or equivalent position upon their return
Affordable Care Act (ACA): Provides consumers with subsidies that lower health care costs for households with certain income levels.
Uniform Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA): Establishes rights and protections for employees who are called to serve on active military duty.
An effective HRMS product ensures a business is always up to date with compliance requirements. Filing requirements, changes in withholding rates & other requirements are kept current and managed with an efficiency unmatched by manual processes alone.
