Client.project v. References

SUGGESTED

I'm using Timeslips Premium.  I understand TImeslips 2 concepts on how to set up clients, clients with projects and clients with references.  We have our Timeslips set up for client with references.  Can you have it both ways, have some clients set up with projects so that there is an invoice and a/r for each project/matter and also have clients set up with just references.  My understanding is that it has to be set one way or the other, but cannot be set up to utilize both.  Is this correct?

Thanks,  Tish

Yes, you can use either, or both.  It just depends on what you want.

Each "Client" record gets a separate Invoice and A/R.

    So you can have:

    1) BigCity as a client and just be plain, and let all the slips run together. One Bill, One A/R. No ability to subtotal or report on sub issues.

    2) BigCity and use References to sort/subtotal/report on various sub-groups on the bill like: General, Dog Pound, Water Treatment Project, Employee Complaint against Mayor. One Bill, One A/R but subtotals for each matter.

    3) BigCity (Master)

    BigCity.Dog Pound

    BigCity.Water Treatment

    BigCity.EmployeeVMayor

That gets you four invoices, four A/R

    4) Big City.Water Treatment with References for: EPA, State Regulation, Permitting, Public Meetings, Committee Review, etc. Also possible, but back to One Invoice, One A/R  with subtotaling.

All are permissible in the same database at the same time. Hope that helps.

    Hi Nancy,

I've never set up a master client like the Big City (Master) example you listed.  We just added a new client and after they received our first invoice they said they wanted invoices for each matter. Would this entail undoing the invoice and changing the way the client was initially set up? Also, will the invoice template be different from our current template we are using?  Depending on how involved it is to set this up, we may need your assistance.  How much would you charge for a consultation regarding this matter?

Are you saying they will not pay the first invoice, and want you to redo it?  Or they just want the future invoices separated? If they want an invoice for each matter, then you will want to use Client.Project. The invoice template can be the same or different. Your choice.

Happy to help if you would like a bit more help.  My hourly rate is $300 per hour, No Minimum Charge, No Contract. I bill only for time actually spent. The rate also includes the remote access tool that I will be using to work with you on your own machine.
