Timeslips 2020

We currently have Timeslips 2020 and it's installed on my computer as the "SERVER". Opens and runs perfectly for me without any errors. I am the primary billing person so I use the full version. My boss' workstation has both options full version or Minitimeslips and it was running without any problems for the past year or so but now is opens to "open a database" and I can't get it to point the right direction and open.  We have had Timeslips for years and know how to open and redirect to the correct data base but nothing is working. We only have 3 clients that we are billing and do not want to upgrade as it's not necessary, but need some support to get his workstation up and running again.  Thank you!!

  • PS  - in attempting to open the database on his computer, I now get an error "Mini Timeslips cannot lock your database" so I backed out of the program on my machine as it my workstation listed as the one in use.  I then tried again and got the same message but my computer is no longer listed. No one else is logged in so not sure what is happening. Thank you.

Hmm, that is a bit of an odd one, as typically Timeslips reopens the last database that it was accessing before it was last closed. You should not have to pick the database over and over like that.

Is his machine connecting to your machine successfully? Can it see files on your machine?  What happens when you say Open Database? You should get a list of available databases that you can connect to. You should not need to "point the right direction and open," i.e., there is no need to path to a database.

Thank you - Yes, I agree very odd! We have been using Timeslips for many years and you're right - his work station should just open as it normally does. His machine is not connected to my machine.  It looks like it was a "TSShare folder" setup for the data share as my workstation is considered the "server".  Are you available to assist/hire with a service call. How does your business operate? Hourly? Per incident? I feel a support person like yourself knowledgeable with TS could remote in and fix the problem. It's just getting to know the setup with my workstation as the server and how they directed the other workstations to be networked to mine so to speak. Thank you. Melissa

This is usually a hardware/networking thing, but give me a call and we can chat about whether I am the best person to address the issue.
