Fix license conflict when removing/adding PC

SOLVED

Hello,

We are using Timeslips 2006 for 3 users, and we are having some type of licensing conflict. Using Station Administrator I removed a PC that is no longer working. Then I added a new PC, installed using the installation disc, then used Station Administrator to point to the correct database and activate using the proper codes and serial numbers. It works, but it appears as a separate licensing then the other workstations. I can use Timeslips on the other two workstations simultaneously with no issue, but the new install sees the older two, and will not work unless that have the application closed. Need advisement on how to flix the licensing conflict, please.

Hello , and welcome to Sage City - Timeslips community.

Congratulations on 17 years of running the same version of Timeslips. That is quite a run!

The issue stems from installing the new workstation via the original media and codes. That creates a new "master" or "main" installation with its own Timeslip.CFG file to manage licenses. So you now have two Timeslip.CFG files trying to manage the licenses where you should only have one.

The old machines are looking at the original one, your new machine is looking at the second.

STEP ONE: Check which one each is using by opening each program one at a time and checking under (from the topmost menus) Help, About Timeslips 2006 for the Installation Path. Write the path down.

There should be no need to uninstall and redo the install on the new machine correctly to fix the problem.

STEP TWO: On the new/third machine, with Timeslips CLOSED, find the second Timeslip.CFG file and rename it. You should find it in the folder that you just wrote down for the Installation Path in Step One for this machine. I usually just make the name something like TimeslipOLD.CFG. What you rename it to is inconsequential. We are just renaming it so that the program will not find a file with that name in that location the next time it tries to run.

STEP THREE: Now, open Timeslips on at least one of the two original machines. This will help insure that your pathing in the next step is correct.

STEP FOUR: Back on the third machine, try to open Timeslips. It should prompt you to locate the Timeslip.CFG file since you have renamed the second one and now it cannot find and use the wrong one. Navigate to the Timeslips.CFG file that the other two machines use. That should "join up" the third machine to the correct central Timeslips.CFG file and resolve your licensing issues.

    Thank you Nancy!

That worked brilliantly. It is so helpful to have willing and participating members of legacy Sage products. Once again, thank you for your detailed and helpful response.

One more question, thank you. Regarding the "Reprint Bills" feature, Is there a way to import an old bill (from 2016 and moving forward) from an old PDF that was done but not saved, so it can be reprinted as well?

You can not bring in anything to the reprint bills. In Settings > General you can change the number of bill images kept for the future, but this will not bring back old ones. You do have an option in Reports to create a history bill. This can pull the slips and payment information from previously billed invoices. You can set the matter to use the same layout for history bill as used for the original bill and it will look very similar to the original invoice.

is correct. You cannot add external images to Timeslips. It will keep however many images per client as is set in Settings, General. If that number is 10, then when the 11th bill is generated and approved, the 1st image is removed.

For this reason, you should not think of the Timeslips database as a repository of ALL bill images, and I would recommend managing that yourself via PDFs outside of Timeslips. With version 11, that was a more manual process than it is in later versions where you can control naming and saving paths to automate a lot of the PDF production.
