Timeslips 2016 - Use of Space Bar for Select

SUGGESTED

Is there a way to disable the use of the space bar for selecting data?  This feature is not helpful at all.

Example:  Generating bills, filter for case selection, selecting Nickname 1 - I want to be able to type the name (example TIC TEST) yet when I type the space bar it selects the first TIC Nickname automatically, when I actually wanted to continue typing.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

Are you using this on a Windows 10 machine? If not, which OS?

Currently Windows 7. Will be upgrading to Windows 10 next week. But I also have an assistant who uses Windows 10 & has the same issue.

The July 2016 Service Release mentions improvement in this area. I do believe this only affects Timeslips Premium and Timeslips 2017 users however.

"When setting up selection filters (for example, on reports), you can type search to move to a specific name quickly. You can also press the spacebar to mark the current name. If a name includes a space in it, Timeslips will wait for a pause to determine if it should mark the name. For example, if you have name Smith, Smith 1, and Smith 2, typing Smith[space]1 will move to Smith 1. But if you type Smith[pause][space], it will mark Smith."

This will seem like an overly simplistic answer, but I'd just take the spaces out.

You only get 30 maximum characters in a nickname, so why waste one of them on a space?

Also, the marking thing is not so much a Timeslips feature as a Windows feature. I was intrigued, so Googled the issue with using the space bar to select and found several articles touting this "feature" in Windows for all sorts of programs/applications.

So, it appears that having that extra space where none is required may be more work than it is help. Remember, it is just the Nickname in Timeslips. I.e., the shorthand way to refer to that specific account. Unless you use it as a token on your bill, your client will never see it.

This would be a big change for us & it seems like the space makes the Nickname1 easier to read instead of one long name with multiple words. Maybe I should consider using a dash between client identifiers we use. I just wish it did not use this feature. Previously we only used F4 to select.
