Creating a LPN during a receipt process is called creating it on the fly.

We can create LPN on the fly with supplier containers.

• For example: Order products from supplier, supplier will deliver my order in containers, I want the products to be stored in the supplier’s containers as I do not want to package the products upon receipt. I want to label the containers with a unique LPN specific to my company.

On the fly creation based on the packaging and capacity of containers.

• For example: I order products from my supplier who carries the delivery in packaging unit. I need to store these packaged goods in my internal containers, based on their capacity and label these containers as soon as the receipt document is created.

LPN stands for 'License Plate Number'. License plating is a method for grouping and managing inventory by container/logistic unit. Pallets, product cartons, barrels or big bags are called containers. Each container is assigned a unique LPN and a barcode label.

A container allows you to group stock lines where you can track various products attached to a LPN and follow all the internal stock movements of a LPN.

Additional information on LPN:

• LPN is available from 2018 R5/v12.0
• EMP location management and LPN License plate number activity codes must be active
• It requires distribution module
• Product must be managed in stock
• Only ‘Internal’ and ‘Dock’ locations use license plate numbers
• Customer and subcontract locations cannot track LPN

LPN can be setup in three different places,

1.   Products:

• Common data, Products, Product categories, Management tab, under storage grid activate the location management and the container management flag.

• Common data, Products, Products-sites, Management tab, Storage grid make sure the location management and container management are selected.
• Additionally, we can specify a default container code and container capacity.
• Capacity table is used for ‘On the fly’ creation. At least one line must be entered for the on the fly creation to be available.

2.   Container:

• Common data, Logistics tables, Container
• Specify the container, type, internal and/or freight, sequence number, Single-product and/ or single lot, label format…
• Stock, License plate numbers, License plate number, used to create a single license plate number and print the label.
• Stock, License plate numbers, Creating license plate numbers, used to mass create license plate numbers.
• Additionally, you can generate LPN on the fly upon stock receipt based on the setup of the product-site record.

3.   Stock receipt management rules:

• Common data, Products, Product category, Receipts tab, Receipts grid, License plate number column.
• Or setup, Stock, Stock management rules, Receipts tab
• Stock management rules are used to indicate if the LPN is mandatory or optional for each receipt movement.
• This applies to the following movement types,
  • Miscellaneous receipt
  • Supplier receipt
  • Receipt for subcontract
  • Delivery return
  • Loan delivery return
  • Delivery return for subcontract

a.   GESSMR: Generate a miscellaneous receipt and then use the change receipts selection on the line to look up the License plate number generated on the fly.

• Use the Jump to selection to tunnel into the License plate number screen.
