Seeking Advice on Excel Exports and XML Transformations from Sage X3

Hello Sage Community,

I hope everyone is doing well.

I'm reaching out to discuss and seek advice on an issue we've been facing related to Excel exports, specifically for account extracts, from Sage X3. I am working on the v12 implementation in a company.

1. Issues with Native Exports from Sage X3:

  • When using the native Excel exports from Sage X3, the display seems accurate, but it aggregates all the data into a single column. This makes it nearly impossible for any in-depth analysis.
  • The CSV export option, while it does export line details, misses out the account general information such as the start date, end date, and account balance.

2. Initially Proposed Solution : Sage Enterprise Intelligence (SEI)

SEI was suggested as a potential solution to these challenges. However, I believe this approach has some drawbacks:

  • Account extracts are raw transactional data, which ideally shouldn't require modifications. In this context, SEI doesn't seem to add any significant value.
  • This approach would necessitate users to toggle between X3 and SEI, which can be cumbersome and time-consuming.
  • Relying heavily on SEI for basic export operations would lead to frequent cube updates, which doesn't seem optimal.

3. Possible Alternative: XML Export

Sage X3 offers a direct export option in the XML format. This format seems to contain all the required information for the export. However, to make it fully usable in Excel, a transformation is essential for the details table, given the X3 XML exported file structure.

I'm curious to know if any members here have experience with this XML export. More specifically, has anyone set up an automated flow for transforming it into a user-friendly Excel format?

Any advice or insights on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you and have a great day!

Warm regards,

Lionel
