What is the best way to update planning work order material based on the updated BOM?
There is no standard import template for MFGMAT. Users requested that they have three old components that is in 189 open work orders that "builds" phantom part# to drive the correct MRP demand based on our forecast.
Any best solution to this work beside manually going to change over 189 records?

No need of an import to update your work orders with the latest BoM changes (valid at the time of the start date of the work order).
There is a dedicated function for this: FUNMAUTM
This function is pretty staight forward, complexity arise if you did manual change on the BoM, then please check the online help for the field Type of leveling (field TYPMAN).
Note: a work order in progress CANNOT be updated.
